🇺🇸 Trump Hails House-Passed ‘Super Bill’ as Potentially the Most Important Law in U.S. History

President Donald Trump praised a sweeping budget bill passed by the House of Representatives, calling it “a beautiful, comprehensive bill” and potentially “the most important piece of legislation ever signed in our nation's history.”

Trump urged the Senate to follow the House's lead and approve the bill, which spans more than 1,000 pages and passed by a narrow margin of 215–214. The legislation now heads to the GOP-controlled Senate, which may face revisions before reaching Trump’s desk for final approval.

The bill lays the foundation for many of Trump’s key policy promises, including the extension of his 2017 tax cuts for individuals and businesses, as well as increased defense spending and tighter border controls.

The vote came despite mounting concerns over the national debt. Last week, ratings agency Moody’s downgraded its outlook on the U.S. economy, citing the country’s growing fiscal risks. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the bill is projected to add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. The U.S. debt currently stands at over $36.2 trillion.

The bill initially faced stiff resistance from hardline conservatives within the Republican Party, particularly over provisions related to Medicaid reforms and changes to state tax revenues. With Republicans holding a narrow majority in the House (220 seats to the Democrats’ 212), House Speaker Mike Johnson was forced into days of behind-the-scenes negotiations to secure enough votes.

Just hours before the vote, Johnson introduced a series of last-minute concessions aimed at appeasing dissenters within his own party.

In the early-morning vote, Republican Representatives Warren Davidson and Thomas Massie broke ranks and voted against the bill alongside Democrats, while Andy Harris abstained by voting “present.”

The Republican-controlled Senate (53–47 majority) is not expected to take up the bill until early June. GOP leaders have indicated they may propose significant amendments before allowing a full vote.
