Israel Launches Longest-Range Airstrike Yet, Hitting Target 2,300 km Deep Inside Iran

The Israeli military has carried out its farthest-reaching strike yet in its escalating conflict with Iran, targeting a refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport—located in northeastern Iran, nearly 2,300 kilometers from Israeli territory.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the strike on June 15, calling it a significant milestone in its air campaign. “The Air Force is working to establish air superiority across Iranian airspace,” the IDF said in a statement.

The Mashhad strike was part of a broader wave of Israeli attacks launched across central and western Iran, targeting surface-to-surface missile bases. “This is an ongoing campaign against a serious threat. Our operations are taking place in both Israeli and Iranian skies,” said IDF spokesperson Nadav Shoshani.

The IDF also released video footage of an airstrike on air defense positions in Tehran and confirmed it had hit ballistic missile production sites and radar facilities in the capital.

Iranian state media confirmed the deaths of Brigadier General Mohammad Kazemi, head of intelligence for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and his deputy, Hassan Mohaqiq, in the June 15 strikes. Another senior IRGC intelligence officer, Mohsen Bagheri, was also killed in Tehran.

According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency, an Israeli missile also struck a building belonging to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Israel said its forces completed a large-scale operation targeting infrastructure linked to the IRGC, its Quds Force, and other military units. “Multiple weapons production sites across the country were struck,” the IDF stated, emphasizing its aim to dismantle Iran’s weapons manufacturing capabilities.

Iran’s Health Ministry reported at least 224 people killed and 1,277 injured in the Israeli strikes, with 90% of the casualties believed to be civilians, according to ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour.
