Israeli Defense Minister Threatens to ‘Burn Tehran’ if Iran Continues Missile Strikes
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, issued a stark warning on Friday, vowing that Tehran would be “burned” if Iran continues launching missiles at Israeli territory.
“The Iranian regime is holding its own people hostage,” Katz said. “They are putting civilians—especially those in Tehran—at grave risk because of the crimes their leaders are committing against the people of Israel. If Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei continues firing missiles at us, Tehran will be burned.”
The warning comes as Israel’s military confirmed its fighter jets had struck air defense systems in the Iranian capital overnight and promised further strikes in the coming days.
“The road to Iran is now open,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement. “We are proceeding according to operational plans already in motion.”
Iranian media reported that on June 14, Israeli warplanes also targeted the northwestern city of Tabriz, along with key provinces in western Iran—including Lorestan, Hamedan, and Kermanshah—all known for their military installations and air defense networks.
The Fars News Agency quoted senior Iranian military officials warning that retaliatory strikes against Israel will continue and may expand to include U.S. bases in the region.
“This aggression will be met with painful and regretful consequences,” one senior Iranian commander said. “This conflict will extend to every area under Israeli control, as well as American military installations in the Middle East.”
Israel launched its largest-ever assault on Iran in the early hours of June 13 under the codename “Operation Rising Lion.” The strikes killed at least 78 people and injured hundreds, according to reports. Iran responded the following day with “True Promise 3,” a barrage of approximately 200 ballistic missiles aimed at Israeli air bases and military targets. At least three people were killed and dozens wounded.
The Israeli military also claimed that its initial airstrikes killed nine top scientists and senior experts involved in Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
“The elimination of these individuals deals a significant blow to Iran’s capabilities to develop weapons of mass destruction,” the IDF said, adding that the operation was based on “highly accurate intelligence.”
While Israel accuses Tehran of seeking to build nuclear weapons, Iranian leaders maintain that their nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.
