Trump Calls for Iran’s ‘Unconditional Surrender,’ Claims Control of Iranian Airspace

President Donald Trump on June 17 declared that Iranian airspace is now “fully controlled,” though he did not specify by whom, and issued a stark ultimatum to Tehran: surrender unconditionally.

“We have complete control of Iranian airspace,” Trump said. “They have advanced air defense systems and surveillance capabilities—but nothing compares to what America builds. Nobody does it better than the U.S.”

The president did not clarify whether “we” referred to the United States, Israel, or both. However, he warned that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remains unharmed only because the U.S. has “held back.”

“We know where he is hiding, but we’ve chosen not to act—for now,” Trump said. “We don’t want missiles flying into civilians or our troops. But our patience is wearing thin. It’s time for Iran to surrender—no conditions.”

When asked about Trump’s comments, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter confirmed that Tel Aviv had requested enhanced defensive coordination with Washington. “We are deeply grateful for the American systems now in place,” he said, adding that U.S. platforms like THAAD have “saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives” in recent days.

Trump’s statement comes amid growing speculation over whether the U.S. is directly supporting Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Iran. While the president has repeatedly stated that the U.S. is not involved in the conflict, he continues to pressure Tehran to abandon its nuclear ambitions in exchange for peace.

According to open-source flight tracking data, at least 32 U.S. Air Force KC-135R and KC-46A refueling aircraft departed from various American bases on June 16, heading east across the Atlantic toward destinations in Europe and the Middle East.

Later that day, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed additional American forces were being deployed to the region to bolster defenses and protect U.S. personnel.

The current Israel-Iran conflict erupted on June 13, when Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion,” a surprise wave of airstrikes that killed multiple senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with “True Promise 3,” a ballistic missile barrage targeting Israeli cities and military installations.

Now entering its sixth day, the conflict has inflicted heavy civilian casualties on both sides. Iranian authorities report 224 dead and 1,227 wounded—most of them civilians. In Israel, 24 civilians have been killed and nearly 600 injured, according to government figures.
