Trump Urges Iran to Accept Nuclear Deal “Before There’s Nothing Left”
Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Thursday, urging Tehran to accept a nuclear agreement before facing even more devastating consequences from Israel’s escalating military campaign.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had missed its chance to make a deal, warning that Israel now possesses “some of the best and most dangerous weapons in the world” — many of them U.S.-made — and that Iran would soon face “unprecedented destruction” if it continues to reject diplomacy.
“Hardline officials have already been killed in Israel’s strikes, and things are only going to get worse,” Trump wrote. “There has already been massive loss of life and destruction, but there’s still time to end the bloodshed before the next wave of attacks begins. They’ve been pre-planned and will be even more brutal. Iran must strike a deal before there’s nothing left. No more death and destruction — get it done before it’s too late.”
Since April, the U.S. and Iran have engaged in multiple rounds of high-level nuclear talks — the most serious diplomatic engagement between the two countries in years. Negotiations have centered on limiting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for partial relief from U.S. sanctions. Despite months of discussions, no agreement has been reached.
In a separate interview published earlier this week, Trump expressed growing pessimism about the talks. “They seem to be stalling, and that’s unfortunate. I’m less optimistic than I was a few months ago. Something seems to have changed,” he said.
The sixth round of negotiations, originally scheduled for June 14 in Oman, is now in doubt. Following Israel’s massive air campaign, Iranian officials have signaled they will no longer participate.
Western nations have long suspected that Iran seeks to acquire nuclear weapons, despite Tehran’s claims that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes. On June 13, Israel launched a major preemptive strike involving more than 200 fighter jets targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities. Among those reportedly killed were Iran’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, General Gholam Ali Rashid, and Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the IRGC’s Aerospace Force. At least six Iranian nuclear scientists were also reported dead.
Israeli forces also claim to have taken out several top IRGC drone and air defense commanders. Iran has not officially confirmed these reports.
Israel says the strikes are aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and that the campaign will continue for several days to ensure the threat is completely neutralized.
In response, Iran launched roughly 100 long-range Shahed suicide drones at Israeli territory and warned of “unlimited retaliation”, hinting at larger-scale attacks to come.
