U.S. Holds Historic Military Parade in Washington to Celebrate Army’s 250th Anniversary

The U.S. Army is set to mark its 250th anniversary with a massive military parade in Washington, D.C., this evening, June 14. The event, which begins at 6:30 p.m. local time and will last approximately 90 minutes, is expected to draw crowds of up to 200,000 along Constitution Avenue.

This will be the largest military parade the U.S. has held in decades—the last one taking place in 1991 following the end of the Gulf War. Army officials say the event will feature 6,600 service members, 150 military vehicles, and more than 50 aircraft, showcasing key moments in the Army’s history.

Preparations for the celebration have been underway for nearly two years, but the parade itself was only formally added to the White House’s agenda earlier this year. Secret Service officials anticipate the actual turnout could exceed initial estimates.

At least 15 members of the president’s Cabinet, along with senior military leaders, are expected to attend.

During a recent budget hearing, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll estimated the cost of the parade at $25–40 million. However, some Democratic lawmakers believe the final price tag could reach $100 million.
