White House: Trump Won’t Let Chaos Take Over America
The White House issued a forceful statement on June 11, vowing that President Donald Trump will not allow disorder to sweep across the United States, as immigration protests continue to escalate nationwide.
"The most basic responsibility of any government is to uphold law and order. This administration considers that a sacred duty," said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a press briefing, as video footage of burning cars and masked demonstrators played behind her. "President Trump will never tolerate lawless mobs running wild in America."
Leavitt sharply criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, calling their leadership a “shameful failure to uphold the oath they took to serve the people.”
She accused both officials of “igniting this crisis” and “smearing federal immigration officers from ICE,” echoing Trump’s remarks a day earlier at Fort Bragg, where he declared he would “liberate Los Angeles” from unrest tied to the protests.
Tensions between California officials and the Trump administration have been growing, with local leaders accusing the president of exploiting the protests for political gain after deploying thousands of federal troops to Los Angeles—even though most demonstrations have remained peaceful.
The wave of protests erupted over the weekend following a string of immigration raids by ICE agents in Los Angeles, part of Trump’s push for tougher immigration enforcement.
While some demonstrators turned violent—setting vehicles on fire and throwing rocks at police—the federal response included tear gas and aggressive crowd control measures.
President Trump previously labeled the protestors “paid rioters,” claiming many were equipped with professional gear. The White House has not provided evidence to support the claim, nor has it identified who allegedly financed the demonstrations.
"That’s a very legitimate question the president raised," Leavitt said. "And we are actively investigating who is funding these agitators."
